Maifest Returns to Covington with Changes

Festival season is upon us and Maifest returns to Covington's Mainstrasse Village on Friday, May 18 through Sunday, May 20.

The German-themed festival is produced by the Mainstrasse Village Association and presented by Braxton Brewing Company. It features outdoor activities with free live music, family activities, and the trademark food and drink.

This year's festival features Euro Bungee, a combination of bungee cord flight harness and trampoline. A 10-minute ride will cost $7.

The festival will also be laid out differently to capitalize on modern walkability efforts, convenience, and optimal exposure for the local businesses.

There will be covered dining and drinking pavilions near the 22 food vendors, along with dancing on Main Street near the Goose Girl Fountain.

In addition to German-themed food favorites, there will be new food offerings inspired by India and South Asia cuisine, as well as new vegetarian menus, fresh juices, and shake-ups.

Kids can enjoy Kinderplatz, an all-day family-friendly area located in Goebel Park. The new rides and attractions are presented by Kissel Brothers Shows, and organizers urge festival-goers to be on the lookout for pop-up children’s attractions during daytime hours, scattered throughout the festival area. Circus Mojo will present shows every day in Goebel Park, including a fire show on Saturday night.

Maifest will also present a rare chance to go inside the iconic Goebel Park Bell Tower, which hosts the famous glockenspiel puppet show.

There will be three entertainment stages this year, offering local and regional bands and musicians throughout the three-day event. German bands and traditional German dance exhibitions will be presented at the stage near the clock tower. For souvenir collectors, the traditional 32-ounce festival beer mug will be available, and there will be a variety of MainStrasse Village themed merchandise, too: plushy goats, German hats, enameled pins suitable for hats or lapels, T-shirts, and two new collectible beer stein options, including a traditional boot stein.

The Braxton Brewing Company 39th Annual Maifest will be held on:

  • Friday, May 18, 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. (parade at 6:30 p.m., opening ceremony at 7 p.m.)
  • Saturday, May 19, noon to 11 p.m.
  • Sunday, May 20, noon to 8 p.m.
