Game On: Covington Adult Softball League Will Play Season After All

Days after putting out the call that the season may be canceled - after more than fifty years of continuous operation - the Covington Adult Softball League will play its season as scheduled.

Three more teams signed up, after the league initially struggled to attract rosters.

The season will start on May 17.

"It worked," Parks & Recreation Director Rosie Santos said of the recent effort to draw teams in. "We now have nine teams playing, and we're pretty happy about it. Over the years we've found that a lot of teams treat game-night as an excuse to bring their families and share food and the family friendly atmosphere."

Barring any weather-related complications, the regular season will last twelve games and wrap up play Aug. 23 a single-elimination tournament.

League and tournament winners earn plaques, T-shirts, and bragging rights. Given that the Covington Adult League has been in existence for at least 50 years and probably much longer, those "rights" are held in high regard, Santos said.

The games are played Thursday nights at Bill Cappel Youth Sports Complex at 4305 Decoursey Ave. in Covington.
