An Independence man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for bringing in drugs that killed a fellow inmate.
Chad Prodoehl, 35, was convicted of conspiracy to distribute carfentanil resulting in death, following a three-day trial last December.
He was an inmate in the Boone County Jail's work camp in Burlington when he conspired with others to smuggle in drugs. Prodoehl was allowed to leave the camp on a work release.
On October 15, 2016, he brought in the drugs, including carfentanil, and several inmates took them. Timothy Marcum overdosed and died as a result. Prodoehl was one of six people arrested at the time.
Federal law mandates that Prodoehl must serve at least 85-percent of his sentence.
