Kenton Sheriff Warns of Jury Duty, IRS Scams
The Kenton County Sheriff's Office reports that local residents have received several calls from likely scammers.
In one instance, a Kenton County citizen was told that they missed jury duty. In another, the caller said the IRS needed to speak immediately to them about an issue. And then a third case, someone posing as a representative from the civil process division needed to talk about an issue.
The sheriff's office said in a news release that government offices will contact residents by U.S. Mail or in person, not by phone.
One of the numbers used in the calls was 859.592.9060. The sheriff's office said that a Google search revealed the number as "spam".
The sheriff's office said that residents should not engage suspicious callers or give out any personal information, and never give any payment.
Instead, those answering the phone should simply hang up.
To report continued nuisance calls please contact Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear, Office of Consumer Protection, at 888.432.9257.
