The Commonwealth Artists Student Theatre (CAST), a youth theatre company based in Northern Kentucky, is announcing its first two shows of the summer season; "O Beautiful" at The Carnegie in Covington from June 29 to July 8, and "Shrek The Musical" at Highlands High School from July 13 to 22.
The plays will feature over 100 area high school students representing 24 different schools. Although most youth theatre programs focus on singing and dancing and therefore rarely present plays, CAST believes all students deserve to participate in theatre.
"O Beautiful" is a topical play by Cincinnati native Theresa Rebeck that inventively reviews topics such as cyber-bullying, aggressive patriotism, and contemporary American life and the history that begot our current situations.
"Shrek The Musical" is a musical adaptation of the immensely popular film series. This production is set to be more technical and will be executed exclusively by students under the guidance of theatre professionals.
