Taylor Mill Woman Named Big Sister of the Year

Taylor Mill native Kristi Winkler has been named the Big Brother and Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati 2018 Big Sister of the year for her work as a positive role model for her Little Sister Nevaeh.

Winkler has been involved with Big Brothers Big Sisters for over thirty years and says she loves her friendship with her Little Sister Nevaeh. The two have been matched through Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Cincinnati since 2010.

Winkler, who is married and has two grown children of her own, works at Taft Law in Cincinnati and spends much of her time working, at home, or giving back to the community. She and Nevaeh share a desire to make a difference in the lives of others. They volunteer at park clean-ups, pack food-boxes for church service programs, volunteer at the League for Animal Welfare, and more to make an impact in their communities. Nevaeh says Winkler has shown her the importance of volunteering and giving to others.

Through the years, Big Sister Kristi and Little Sister Nevaeh have shared some major life moments. Most recently, Winkler's husband brought Nevaeh to the hospital to help the family welcome its first grandchild; Winkler was present to celebrate when Nevaeh and her team were awarded a district championship basketball trophy; and Winkler was invited to attend Nevaeh’s junior high school graduation where she was moved by the amount of awards received by her Little Sis.

Having a consistent, positive role model has been impactful for Nevaeh. Since Nevaeh is living in a single-parent home, having a friend in Winkler has helped broaden her view of the world. They talk about their days, and current events; go to church, concerts, Bengals and Reds games, the theater, art museums and the zoo. Most recently they volunteered together for the Keep Covington Beautiful Project, where they picked up litter in neighborhoods and parks.

“When I’m with her, I get to see a lot of the world with another person who cares about me and who loves me, and that makes me really happy,” Nevaeh said.
