Phyter bars

New Farm Fresh Snack Bars are now Available at Fresh Thyme

Phyter Food, creator of Phyter bars - the first snack bars featuring farm fresh vegetables and fruits as their main ingredient - today announced a major geographic expansion making its bars available in each of the more than 70 Fresh Thyme Farmers Market stores from Iowa to Pennsylvania, including the one in Newport.

The expansion gives consumers in 11 states a clean, chef-crafted, plant-based snack option that’s as different from others on the market as home-cooked dishes are from fast food.

The bars boast ingredients such as pureed produce, that is never dehydrated, and other whole-food ingredients with no GMOs, gluten, soy, dairy, chemicals, preservatives, or added oils or fats. They are also 100 percent organic, sweetened with low-glycemic coconut sugar, vegan, kosher, and are significantly softer and easier to eat than the nuts-and-dried-fruit products that are predominantly available.

Phyter bars are the creation of Chef David Choi Jr., who grew up in a household of Korean vegan chefs and served as head chef at his family’s vegan restaurant in Chicago for nine years. He created an early version of the bars in college when he could not find an acceptable snack in local stores. Choi then adapted the concept for a series of plant-based eating classes he began teaching some years later, and perfected them for commercial sale because of the enthusiastic response from his students. They are still handcrafted and cooked in small batches by Chef David himself.

The Phyter brand debuted in Chicago-area Whole Foods stores in December 2016, and sold so well that it quickly expanded to Whole Foods’ entire Midwest region as well as major independents near its home base, and is now embarking on a nationwide expansion. The Fresh Thyme launch is the first of a series that is expected to triple the bars’ retail presence by mid-summer.

The bars come in flavors such as: Sweet Potato and Coconut; Butternut Squash and Peanut Butter; Cranberry, Berries, and Peanut Butter; Beet and Cocoa; and a new Kale and Apple.

Shoppers can find the bars in Fresh Thyme's refrigerated section. They can be stored in the refrigerator or freezer at home, and stay fresh for at least seven days at room temperature.

The Newport Fresh Thyme Farmer's Market is located at 82 Carothers Rd, Newport, KY 41071
