Security Site: Newport Among 25 Cities Becoming Safer
Newport is among the top 25 cities in the U.S. with the most dramatic decreases in crime, according to a new report.
Your Local Security reported earlier this month on the cities that have seen the sharpest increases and decreases in crime over the past ten years, following an analysis of FBI crime trends.
Newport ranked #17 among the cities becoming safer. YLS evaluated crimes like murder, robbery, assault, property crime, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, and arson.
The site looked at more than 3,400 cities.
Newport saw its property crime decrease by 402 percent and larceny drop by 260 percent, while burglary was down 91 percent, vehicle theft down 49 percent, and assault down 41 percent.
Murders dropped in Newport by 0.6 percent, the report said.
