Carabello Coffee Wins Goering Center Family Business Award
Carabello Coffee Company won the Goering Center Award in the family business division (16 to 75 employees) category.
The popular Newport coffee shop was recognized at a ceremony earlier this month. The Goering Center is affiliated with the University of Cincinnati. For the award, four judges considered Carabello's community investment, leadership style, employee development, culture, and overall growth. Hundreds of small businesses were nominated, a news release said.
Owners Justin and Emily Carabello were on hand to collect the award.
Carabello Coffee started in a garage in 2009 with green coffee beans, a hot air popcorn popper, and an idea that specialty coffee could create sustainable change, an announcement said.
Carabello's philanthropic shop has operated for five years on the corner of Ninth and Monmouth streets.The company supports Third World coffee farmers through direct relationships and charitable giving, and promoting local revitalization efforts. Carabello's also serves Xavier University, Jeff Ruby's Precinct, and Sleepy Bee, among others.
“It has been such an honor to see our community rally around us and our vision," a statement said. "We can’t wait to see what’s next for both our company and for Newport.”
