White Castle Plant Evacuated After Ammonia Leak
This story has been updated.
An ammonia leak was reported at the White Castle frozen foods plant in Covington.
It happened late Saturday afternoon.
Kenton County Emergency Management director Steve Hensley told The River City News that the leak was reported by employees from within the plant.
There were about ten employees inside at the time, he said.
Those employees were evacuated and nearby residents, particularly in the Tuscany subdivision and condo community, were alerted to what is happening, Hensley said.
Madison Pike (KY 17) was closed at the north and south entrance of the industrial park, with drivers diverted to Old Madison Pike.
Covington Police and Fire were on the scene along with other nearby emergency responders.
At 7:30 p.m., Hensley told RCN that the leak had been stopped and the process of ventilating the building had begun.
This story will be updated when more is known.
