Thomas More Taps NKU Assistant as New Head Tennis Coach
Thomas More University named Shawn Barone its new head tennis coach for both men and women.
Barone comes from Northern Kentucky University where he had been an assistant men's and women's tennis coach from 2011-13 and 2016-18. At NKU, Barone was involved in recruiting, arranging team travel, conducting practices, and coaching during matches.
Barone was named the Midwest Assistant Coach of the Year in 2012 for his work with the NKU women's tennis team.
“We are excited to welcome Shawn to Thomas More as our new men’s and women’s tennis coach,” said Thomas More athletic director Terry Connor. “Shawn’s coaching experience and local connections will help the tennis programs to continue to grow as we transition to NAIA and the Mid-South Conference next academic year.”
Barone also coached at the University of Dayton and Loveland High School.
He is the tennis director at Five Seasons Sports Club in Crestview Hills.
“I would like to thank (Thomas More president) Dr. (Kathleen) Jagger and Terry Connor for this great opportunity,” said Barone. “I am looking forward to working with the student-athletes on the tennis teams and to continue to build on an already successful program."
Barone graduated from NKU in 2001 and was a four-year letter winner in tennis for the Norse. He has been a USPTA certified tennis professional since 2007 and earned his Etcheberry certification in 2008.
