Downtown Covington Restaurant Announces it Will Close
A downtown Covington restaurant announced Monday morning that it will close.
Inspirado, which opened in 2015 at 715 Madison Avenue, will close for good on Saturday.
Owner Baron Shirley made the announcement in a Facebook post.
"There are a multitude of reasons that brought us to this very difficult decision," Shirley wrote. "It’s been the gift of a lifetime for me to cook in my own place and get to serve the community in which I live, Covington. I’ve been lucky enough to see my neighborhood grow and begin to truly thrive. The staff that we have, those that have come and gone will never be forgotten.
"You have become part of my family, you know who you are. We are still here for you this week. Stop in this week and enjoy your favorite dish, cocktail, wine, beer, whatever you like and say your goodbyes, and celebrate the next chapter with us. It is with much love I say thank you."
In a 2015 interview with The River City News, Shirley said he settled on the name Inspirado for his new business because it is the Spanish word for "inspired".
"I chose Spanish because I feel that on a global scale, no one does food and beverage better than the Spanish," Shirley said.
Since Inspirado opened three years ago, celebrated with a city-sponsored ribbon-cutting, multiple new restaurants and bars have opened nearby, such as Agave & Rye, Rich's Proper Food, and the Hannaford, along with Hotel Covington and its Coppin's restaurant.
