Former Cov Cath Basketball Star Jailed on Rape Charge
A former Covington Catholic basketball star is in jail Tuesday night charged with first degree rape and first degree sodomy.
Jacob Walter, 18, is reportedly being held on $250,000 bond.
Walter, who graduated in 2018, played on the 2018 Colonels team which won the Kentucky state basketball title last season.
He was recruited to play at Xavier but did not enroll this fall but the 7-ft. standout is not listed on the roster.
WXIX reported that an 18-year old woman accused Walter of sexual assault. The timeline of the allegation is unclear but there has been online speculation about legal issues surrounding Walter and his having not enrolled at Xavier for months.
At the time of his commitment to Xavier, former Musketeers head coach Chris Mack, who is now head coach at Louisville, commented that, "Jake brings great size, toughness, and a skill level for his position that makes his teammates better."
Walter is the son of former Cincinnati Bengals tackle Joe Walter, who played from 1985 to 1997.
