Northern Kentucky Wins Big in Horizon League Opener
Northern Kentucky opened up Horizon League play with a big win over IUPUI on Friday night at BB&T Arena in Highland Heights.
The Norse won 92-77.
Drew McDonald led NKU with 24 points and 12 rebounds, his seventh double-double of the season.
Tyler Sharpe added 16 points and Dantez Walton scored 12, while Jalen Tate and Adrian Nelson each put in 10.
Northern Kentucky (11-3, 1-0) used a 17-2 run in the first half to go ahead 36-20 with 3:40 to go before the break. The Norse never led by less than double digits after.
In the second half, NKU pushed the lead as high as 22 before closing out the 15-point win.
NKU is undefeated at BB&T Arena this season, with nine wins and no losses. The Norse are also 4-0 when five or more players score in double figures.
Northern Kentucky hits the floor for its second Horizon League game on Sunday when Illinois-Chicago comes to Highland Heights for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
NKU women win Horizon League opener
Northern Kentucky's women's team also won its Horizon League opener on the road at Illinois-Chicago, 67-49.
Taylor Clos led the Norse with 14 points, including 4 three-pointers. Emmy Souder and Grayson Rose added 13 apiece, while Ally Niece scored 10.
Northern Kentucky is now 2-9 on the season and 1-0 in the conference.
The women's team travels to IUPUI on Sunday for its second Horizon League game.
