Two Arrested After Multiple Cars, Items Reported Stolen Across NKY
Two people were arrested after a string of events that took place in Boone County and Taylor Mill.
It started at around 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday when Boone County Sheriff's deputies responded to the 1300 block of Boone Aire Road in unincorporated Florence after receiving a report of a theft from a vehicle. When deputies arrived, the victim said that there was suspicious activity in the area.
Jeremy Self, 33, of Springfield, Oh., was arrested there. Deputies learned of a female accomplice who had left the area only to be arrested later in Taylor Mill.
Deputies were dispatched to the Abner Gaines House on Old Nicholson Road in Walton after receiving a report of a suspicious black Kia and white Ford pickup truck stuck in the mud.
Deputies determined that the calls to Boone Aire and Walton were related because they found sets of keys for the Kia and pickup on Self's person. The Kia had been reported stolen in Washington Courthouse, Oh. The vehicle had plates registered to Springfield Township, Oh.
Deputies don't know why Self and his female accomplice drove the stolen Kia Spectra to Walton, but believe that after that vehicle became stuck in the mud, the pair stole two trucks from a business on Mullen Drive.
Both trucks were later found stuck in the mud. In one of the trucks was a variety of items believed to have been stolen, deputies said.
The female suspect left the Boone Aire area prior to the arrival of sheriff's deputies and was able to get a ride to an apartment in Taylor Mill. She was later identified as Laura Jones, 32, of Sabina, Oh. She allegedly entered a nearby daycare, covered in mud and using crutches, and asked for a ride to an apartment complex in Taylor Mill.
A daycare worker agreed to give Jones a ride.
Taylor Mill Police picked up the investigation, went to the apartment and located muddy clothes and the crutches. That's when Jones was arrested.
Deputies were able to link Jones to Self after the daycare worker returned to Boone County and noticed the police activity, and reported that she had just dropped off Jones in Taylor Mill.
Deputies also discovered a red Chevrolet dump truck stolen from Reminiscent Herb Farm on Boone Aire. Another vehicle had also been broken into there and items were stolen from it.
A witness described seeing Self and Jones in the dump truck on Monday night and again on Tuesday.
Deputies also found a handgun in the dump truck.
Boone County Sheriff's deputies contacted Covington Police who also reported items stolen that were recovered at Boone Aire.
Three stolen trucks were returned to their owners along with some stolen property. Deputies said in a news release that they would continue to sort through the remaining recovered property.
Self is charged with one count of possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, three counts of receiving stolen property valued at under $10,000, and one count of receiving stolen property valued at more than $10,000.
Jones is charged with two counts of receiving stolen property valued at under $10,000, and one count of receiving stolen property valued at more than $10,000.
