NKU Routs Detroit Mercy, Homecoming is Saturday

Northern Kentucky sailed past Detroit Mercy on Thursday night as five Norse players scored in double figures.

NKU picked up the win at BB&T Arena in Highland Heights, 97-65. Northern Kentucky is now 19-6 on the season and 9-3 in the Horizon League.

Drew McDonald led the Norse with 20 points, shooting 8 of 9 from the field, including a perfect 4 for 4 from the three-point line.

Trevon Faulkner scored a career high 12, shooting 6 of 8 from the field.

Jalen Tate and Bryant Mocaby scored 11 apiece, and Tyler Sharpe added 10. Mocaby's points all came in the last six minutes of the game.

NKU pulled away midway through the first half, using a 9-0 run to lead 24-14 with 9:04 in the period. The Norse led by 20 at the break.

The second half started with eight unanswered points by Northern Kentucky. NKU went on to lead by as much as 35 before winning by 32.

The Norse are now 14-0 at home this season, and have an 18-game winning streak in Highland Heights.

NKU returns to BB&T Arena on Saturday for a Homecoming night match-up with Oakland (11-14, 7-5). Tip-off is set for 7 p.m.
