Cookie Jar, Dixie Chili Among Honorees at Newport Business Awards

The Newport Business Association hosted its annual meeting and presentation of awards this week at the Newport Syndicate.

The following awards were presented:

Community Leadership: BB Riverboats

Volunteers of the Year: Emily Carabello (Trash Bash) and Susan Whitehead (Newport Schools drama department)

Businesses of the Year: Cookie Jar Bakery (91 years in the city) and Dizie Chili (90 years in the city)

New Businesses of the Year: Hal-Pe Associates Engineering Services, Inc. and Headquarters Historic Event Center

Special Recognition Award - Stewardship Preservation: Newport Grand Lodge 120 for maintaining the former Southgate Street School and providing space for the Newport History Museum @ The Southgate Street School at 215 East Southgate Street

Mayor Jerry Peluso also swore in the new officers and board of directors:
