Villa Madonna Third Grader Takes 2nd Place in State Chess Tournament

Eli Dropic took home the second place trophy from the Kentucky Chess Association state individual championships.

The Villa Madonna third grader competed in a field of more than 250 students from across Kentucky in Lexington.

Dropic won four out of five of his matches in the Kindergarten-3rd grade level in claiming his state runner-up status.

Dropic, of Erlanger, was taught to play chess by his father, Ajdin Dropic, when he was just three years old.

Two years later, when the boy was 5, The River City News profiled him after he won a tournament in Lexington.
