Photos: Students Create "The Christmas Experience" to Help Newport Families

The Christmas Experience brought families to Newport High School on Friday night.

The Newport High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) hosted the event as an effort to assist those who may be less fortunate this holiday season. Through fundraisers, donations, and other efforts, the FBLA was able to raise $3,500 to host The Christmas Experience which helped 163 students in the Newport Independent School District have a brighter holiday.

On Friday evening, the families were invited to come shop at the event at no charge. Each student received a toy, underwear, socks, a book, gloves, a hat, and one other item.

Santa Claus was also on hand for photos. There were crafts and a decorate-your-own-cookie station.

This was the first time the event was held. "We are extremely excited about it and thankful that we are able to provide this opportunity to our families," said Jennifer Michael, a teacher at Newport High and sponsor of the FBLA. "We hope this can bring joy to the Holidays for these families."

RCN's Brian Frey attended the Christmas Experience and produced the slideshow below.
