Late Basket Gives NKU Win as Norse Stay Unbeaten in Horizon League

Lavone Holland II's long jumper with 3.3 seconds left helped Northern Kentucky stay perfect in the Horizon League.

The Norse held off Detroit Mercy, 56 to 54.

The game started slow for Northern Kentucky (11-5, 4-0) with the Norse hitting just 7 of 32 shots in the first half, including 2 of 13 from three-point range. Detroit Mercy (4-13, 0-4) led the visiting Norse 22 to 21 at halftime.

NKU shot better in the second half of this back-and-forth affair - 13 ties and 15 lead changes - including Holland's late basket as the game wound down.

Drew McDonald led the Norse with 16 points and 9 rebounds while Carson Williams had 12 points and 5 rebounds. Holland score 9 and added 5 rebounds.

The Norse are back home on Thursday to host Wright State (12-5, 4-0) in a battle of unbeaten conference foes. NKU is undefeated at home this season. Tip-off Thursday is set for 7 p.m. at BB&T Arena.
