Colonial Cottage cashier Pat Zerhusen was named the employee of the year at the Kentucky Restaurant Association's annual gala in Louisville.
Zerhusen has been at the Erlanger landmark for more than five years and the business nominated her, citing her work ethic, dedication to her large family, and community service through her church.
Community leaders, church members, and Colonial Cottage customers sent letters of support for Zerhusen's nomination. She was one of eleven finalists and one of three selected as employee of the year.
Zerhusen raised five children and has fifteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She volunteers two nights a week at her church and is the resident "Cottage Elf", responsible for all the holiday decorations.
The Colonial Cottage has been in business for eighty-five years - and this is the first time one of its employees has received this honor from the Kentucky Restaurant Assocation.
“The Colonial Cottage could not be more fortunate to have a team member more dedicated to her family, her church, and to making the world a better place by her example," said owner Matt Grimes. "She truly deserves this recognition.”
