SWAT Team Responds to Covington Home After Driver Flees
A man is behind bars Saturday night after fleeing from Covington Police and prompting the SWAT team to respond to a home on St. Clair Street.
Police attempted to make a traffic stop on Saturday, just past 3 p.m., but driver Jared Derkson allegedly fled on foot. An officer, according to a news release, saw what appeared to be a handgun on Derkson.
The suspect is known to police for having a prior second degree assault charge. Derkson is currently out of prison on parole.
He ran to 1509 St. Clair Street and the SWAT teams from Covington and Kenton County responded.
After several hours of attempting to communicate with no response from Derkson, the SWAT team entered the home and found him hiding in the basement.
Derkson, 29, was taken into custody and charged with second degree fleeing/evading, and various traffic offenses. As of 10:14 p.m., police were still on the scene attempting to locate the suspected handgun.
