Photos: Mayors Battle in Ludlow Senior Center Chili Cook-Off
The Ludlow Senior Center hosted its annual chili cookoff Thursday night, sponsored by the Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission."We started this last year as a way to let people know that the Ludlow Senior Center is here, and has wonderful programs," said Rhonda Chisenhall, vice president of community development. "Ludlow Senior Center serves Covington, Ft Wright and Park Hills, as well as Ludlow, so we invited four mayors this year to cook the different chilis."Fort Wright Mayor Dave Hatter, Park Hills Mayor Matt Mattone, Covington Mayor Joe Meyer, and Ludlow Mayor Ken Wynn all showed off their cooking skills, with each producing a giant pot of chili. Each of the chili pots had a jar beside it where people could vote for their favorite by dropping money inside. All the proceeds from the contest go to the Ludlow Senior Center.Chisenhall said the contest raised about $500 last year, even though the initial contest was held on a Friday in Lent when many Catholics won't eat meat. This year she planned the event for a Thursday, so that it did not compete with local fish frys.Mayor Joe Meyer was the winner this year, followed by Hatter, Wynn, and Mattone.Anyone who would like to find out more about the NKCAC can go to www.NKCAC.org and click on Senior Centers. There is also a Facebook page for the Ludlow Senior Center, where Dee Meier is the new center manager. The center is open 9 am to 3 pm Monday through Friday and offers classes in yoga, cards and bingo, and field trips.
