Commonwealth Theatre Announced 2-Show Summer Season
Commonwealth Theatre’s two-show summer dinner theater season at Northern Kentucky University is musical and comedy, and the comedy classic is The Odd Couple starring Ken Jones (a.k.a. director of NKU’s School of Fine Arts) as Felix Unger, and George Alexander as Oscar Madison.
Summer begins with Life Could Be a Dream, packed with hits from the Sixties, playing June 8-24. Take a trip to Springfield and meet Denny and the Dreamers, a fledgling doo-wop singing group preparing to enter the Big Whopper Radio contest to realize their dreams of making it to the big time! Trouble comes in the form of Lois, who arrives to put some polish on the boys. Denny falls in love, Wally falls in line, Eugene falls apart, and along comes handsome heartthrob Skip to send the whole situation spinning.
The ‘60s hits include: “Fools Fall in Love,” “Tears on My Pillow,” “Runaround Sue,” “Earth Angel,” “Stay,” “Unchained Melody,” “Lonely Teardrops,” and “The Glory of Love.”
Neil Simon’s evergreen The Odd Couple, about middle-aged roommates, slob Oscar and fastidious Felix, who drive each other nuts. It eturns by popular demand from July 6-22.
The funny stuff starts when Felix moves in with recently divorced Oscar after his own marriage ends. Sports writer Oscar likes junk food and doesn’t mind a mess. Felix is a neat-freak photographer who cooks gourmet meals and is obsessed with removing each and every bit of dirt and disorder from Oscar’s apartment. Can their friendship survive close proximity?
Tickets are now on sale. For more information call the NKU School of the Arts Box Office at (859) 572-5464 or visit nku.edu/ctc.
