Man Charged After Busting Window, Uprooting Tree at Dixie Chili

In the early morning hours of Sunday, a verbal fight broke out at the Dixie Chili on Monmouth Street in Newport.

By the time it was over, a man had slammed the door, punched out a window, and pulled a tree from the ground out front.

Police were called and told that the man fled in a silver Toyota Corolla, which was later located shortly before 4 a.m. and pulled over at the Burger King on Carothers Road.

Thomas Roenker, of Florence, was found driving the vehicle and suffering from lacerations on his right forearm, knuckles, and hand. According to a police report obtained by The River City News through an open records request, Roenker admitted that the injuries came from breaking the window at Dixie Chili.

A field sobriety test was performed, and the police report indicates that Roenker performed "unsatisfactorily".

It was suggested that Roenker seek medical attention for his lacerations.

He was charged with second degree criminal mischief.

His passengers were told to find other ways home.

The total damage at Dixie Chili is estimated at $900.
