Star Freshman Transferring from Northern Kentucky
The star big man freshman of the Northern Kentucky University men's basketball team is leaving the program.
Tayler Persons tweeted his decision to leave the Norse on Tuesday afternoon.
"I want to thank NKU for everything this past year! I have decided to move on and transfer. I wish NKU nothing but the best in the future," Persons tweeted.
The 6'3", 230-pound Persons was a star in Kokomo, Indiana before arriving in Highland Heights. He was named Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Year this season.
The Northern Kentucky program has changed dramatically in recent weeks with the ouster of longtime head coach Dave Bezold and the arrival of new head coach John Brannen.
The university's athletics department has not released a statement about Persons' departure. The freshman averaged 13.1 points and 4.6 rebounds per game for the Norse. The program played in its first Atlantic Sun conference tournament this season, losing to Lipscomb in the first round, and will be eligible for the NCAA Tournament in 2017.
