NKY Whooping Cough Cases "Higher Than Usual"
The Northern Kentucky Health Department reports that there have been 101 cases of whooping cough, or pertussis, in the region in 2012. Lasy year the Department confirmed only 49 cases. The average age of those afflicted in Northern Kentucky is eight, but ranges from three-weeks old to sixty-seven years old. "Pertussis is highly contagious with up to 80 percent of susceptible household contacts developing the disease after exposure," the Department writes at its website.
