Scheper, Mallory Issue Joint Proclamation for Day of Inclusion Walk

The Fourteenth Annual BRIDGES for a Just Community Walk and Freedom Run is Saturday morning and Covington Mayor Chuck Scheper and his wife, Julie Geisen Scheper, are the grand marshals. The walk/run is a certified 5K (3.1 miles) and reaches into Covington with starts and finishes at the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center (50 E. Freedom Way) in Cincinnati.

Mayor Scheper and Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory issued a joint proclamation declaring Saturday as Greater Cincinnati and Covington Kentucky Day of Inclusion

"Each year, BRIDGES Walk for a Just Community helps bring communities together to transform our region into a more inclusive community. We equip people with awareness, skills, and opportunities to develop relationships that will help us become more accepting and welcoming. We know that this event is one way we can increase respect, justice and inclusion to bridge gaps that divide us," said Lynnette M. Heard, President and CEO of BRIDGES.

"This year's BRIDGES Walk expands into Covington, KY and will draw many communities together, while advancing BRIDGES' vision of creating and sustaining a respectful, equitable and welcoming community for everyone through advocacy, education, and dialogue," she said.

Greater Cincinnati residents, teams organized by local companies, schools, and places of worship will participate in BRIDGES Walk to show their commitment to building a more inclusive and just community. "If you believe 'diversity happens, but inclusion is a choice,' come and walk with us," said.

Contributions and volunteer services dedicated to promoting this year's BRIDGES Walk are needed. All proceeds support the development and expansion of BRIDGES' community leadership programs including Public Allies Cincinnati, "JUST Community" Youth Leadership Institute, Village Schools, educational programs to increase respect and safety in schools and communities, and workplace inclusion and diversity initiatives.

No registration fee is required for walkers - each walker secures pledges from family, friends, neighbors and co-workers. Plus, effective immediately, each walker raising$25 will receive a T-shirt. The registration fee for the Freedom Run is $25. The proceeds benefit the critical human relations and educational programs of BRIDGES. Mercy Health Hospital is the presenting sponsor for this year's BRIDGES Walk.
