Two Covington Police Officers to Be Honored
Specialist Mike Lusardi and Sergeant Ron Trenkamp of the Covington Police Department will be honored next Tuesday (November 20) for heroism and service, respectfully. The Covington Rotary Club hands out the awards each year and this year's winners were selected by Chief Spike Jones, according to a news release.
From the Rotary Club and Chief Jones:
2012 Rotary Club Heroism Award -- Specialist Michael Lusardi
Specialist Lusardi is an 8-year veteran of the police department. He is a Graduate of Lexington Catholic High School and has a Bachelor’s Degree from Western Kentucky University. Mike is married to Patrol Officer Sara Lusardi and they have one son, Levi.
Mike responded to an early morning house fire in the 1300 block of Wood Street. Upon realizing that he had preceded fire equipment, he acted swiftly to alert the occupants of the dwelling and move them to safety. Had it not been for Specialist Lusardi’s swift action the occupants of this dwelling could have been trapped, seriously injured or possibly killed.
We are grateful that Specialist Michael Lusardi was on patrol that morning and I can confidently speak for the family in saying that they are as well.
2012 Rotary Club Service Award -- Sergeant Ron Trenkamp
Sergeant Trenkamp is a 23-year veteran of the police department and a native of Covington. He Ron is a graduate of Holmes High School and graduated from Northern Kentucky University in 2008 with a degree in Computer Science. He has served in roles such as street officer, lab technician, detective, and information technology supervisor.
Ron oversaw the implementation of the new CAD, Records Management and Mobile Solution for the police and fire department. He also took the lead in the transition of the Covington dispatch center to the Kenton County dispatch center. Ron makes himself available at any time of the day for computer related issues that arise at the police department.
Ron is an indispensable member of our team and we appreciate all he does for us.
