Governors to Discuss Bridge Tolls in Covington
Governor Steve Beshear of Kentucky and Governor John Kasich of Ohio plan to appear in Covington on December 12 to agree on a study on how to pay for the Brent Spence Bridge project, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer:
The $4 million study – conducted by a leading toll-project firm – is expected to conclude that tolls will need to be the centerpiece of a finance plan. Kasich and Beshear both have said the bridge probably will not get built without tolls.
Local transportation officials view the joint agreement by Kasich and Beshear as a milestone for the project. The Ohio Republican and Kentucky Democrat coming together shows the type of leadership the project has lacked from previous governors and the federal government, local leaders say.
