Center for Great Neighborhoods Seeks Support, Offers Mini-Grants
The Center for Great Neighborhoods, the City of Covington's frequent partner in individual affordable housing developments, is asking for support from its neighbors as the new year approaches. Here is the text of its request for funding support:
With your help, we are able to provide affordable housing in great neighborhoods. Our work galvanizes residents, provides critical resources for their efforts, and rehabilitates housing that both stabilizes neighborhoods and helps individual families. Eight single family homes were rehabbed this year and two newly constructed for low to moderate income families who need down-payment assistance. Our houses have consistently increased the tax values of property more than 1000% and eight more homes are already in the queue for 2013!
Your gift enables us to help youth in Covington discover their gifts, learn by serving their community, and chart a path to success in school and life. More than 750 children participated in our community and character building programs last year. 98% of our BLOCK program students increased their abilities in goal-setting, decision-making, teamwork, and conflict resolution skills. A new program that focuses on 6-8th graders begins this school year - be a part of it and connect with this crucial age group - we need volunteers to be "coaches" (reply to this email if you're interested).
VITA & Financial Education
Your financial support gives us the opportunity to increase residents' understanding of how to make the most of their income. Our Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) and Financial Education programs put needed dollars in the hands of families and offer them advice to help successfully manage their financial affairs. In 2012, we generated more than $1.1 million in tax refunds by providing free preparation and filing for 893 households, and we're looking to surpass that in 2013! On average, that's about $1230 per return that goes directly to families and individuals served at our VITA site.
If you've been meaning to make a contribution, NOW is the time to give! [Remember that all donations are tax deductible] The work of the Center could not be done with out you, and from Center staff, we want to sincerely thank you for your generosity and support. Have a wonderful holiday with friends, family and neighbors!
