Finally, Wildcats Score a Rout in SEC
From the staff at KY Forward:
Just one game after UK head coach John Calipari said he did not think his team was capable of “absolutely whomping on people,” it did just that.
UK shot 66.7 percent from the field in the second half to turn what had been a close game into a blowout in a 75-53 win versus Auburn.
Five different Wildcats finished the game in double figures.
UK was led in scoring by sophomore forward Kyle Wiltjer, who totaled 17 points and tallied five assists. Sophmore point guard Ryan Harrowscored 12 points and tallied eight assists.
Freshman forward Alex Poythressscored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds. Freshman guard Archie Goodwin scored 12 points and grabbed seven rebounds.
Freshman forward Nerlens Noel finished the game with 10 points, nine rebounds and seven blocked shots in 25 minutes.
Both teams started the game ice cold from the field, combining for just 12 points in the first 10 minutes.
With freshman forward Willie Cauley-Stein not making the trip to Auburn as he recovered from a minor procedure on his knee this week, the already thin UK bench was taxed even further in the first half when freshman forward Noel picked up his second foul with 8:27 remaining before halftime.
With Noel on the bench, Wiltjer stepped up with nine points, two rebounds and three assists in the first half.
The Wildcats held Auburn to 35 percent shooting in the game and earned a 43-to-30 advantage in rebounding. Auburn missed all 15 of its three-point attempts.
UK returns to action Tuesday at Alabama.
