NKU's Eshaunte Jones Named Player of the Week
Northern Kentucky University's Eshaunte Jones has been named the College Sports Madness Atlantic Sun Conference Player of the Week. College Sports Madness identifies the players who have made the greatest impact to their team from each conference and on a national basis each Monday.
Jones, a senior guard from Fort Wayne, Ind., averaged 21.5 points per game last week as Northern Kentucky swept A-Sun road contests at East Tennessee State and USC Upstate. He poured in 25 points, including a 3-pointer while being fouled with 26.7 seconds left in the game, as the Norse held on for a 70-68 victory over East Tennessee State on Thursday night.
Jones made a career-high seven 3-pointers for Northern Kentucky in that victory in Johnson City, Tenn. His final trey, which banked in after he was fouled taking the shot from the left wing, resulted in a four-point play that extended a 66-65 Norse lead to 70-65.
Jones followed that performance by scoring 18 points during a 70-65 win at USC Upstate on Saturday. He netted 13 of those points in the first half as Northern Kentucky built a 38-32 lead at the break.
During the two wins, Jones made 10 shots from 3-point range (10-for-15, 66.7 percent). He helped the Norse extend their current winning streak to four and became the first Northern Kentucky player in eight years to score at least 25 points in three consecutive games.
Northern Kentucky is 8-11 overall, 6-5 in the A-Sun. The Norse play at Lipscomb this Friday night at 7:05 p.m. Jones leads Northern Kentucky in scoring at 15.8 points per game. During his two years with the Norse, Jones has scored 612 career points. Nicknamed "Bear," Jones transferred to Northern Kentucky after playing two years at Nebraska.
