Riverfront Development Design, City Vision Statement Highlight Commission Agenda

Tuesday night's meeting of the Covington City Commission will feature updates on plans for Riverfront Commons as well as a symbolic "vision statement" aimed at guiding the city forward. Here are the highlights of the agenda for Tuesday's 6:00 p.m. meeting at City Hall (638 Madison Avenue):

Riverfront Commons

The planned riverfront development that would stretch across most of Northern Kentucky's river cities will be discussed by the commission as it considers to issue a request for proposals from design firms. The city has created and adopted several riverfront development plans, including a recent $3 million project extending from the base of Greenup Street west to Kentucky Route 8. City staff met with of Divisions of State Government to identify potential funding for the project. Detailed designs are needed to apply for potential funding sources, prompting the RFP for design work.

Vision Statement to Move Forward

The commission agenda includes an item described as "an order/resolution approving a vision statement for the city from which to build on for goals, objectives, and measurable criteria for 2013 and 2014."

Other items:

  • Office space to be leased at City Hall by 638 Madison, LLC. (638 Madison Ave is City Hall's address)
  • VarIous new hires for the public improvements department
