Woman Killed in Overnight Fire on Garrard Street

A woman is dead after fire destroyed a home in Covington's Eastside neighborhood during the overnight hours of Monday morning.

WXIX reports that the victim has been identified by neighbors as 67-year old Joan Herron.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reports that the fire broke out just after midnight and that fire crews were ont he scene for four hours at 1343 Garrard Street.

Kenton Co. property records show that Joan Herron owned the home since 1996 and that the house had been in the Herron family since at least 1967.

WCPO reports:

The neighbor said he was working on her car, then helped her to bed. He says he put her on the couch, and then she took her medicine. The neighbor says he got into a fight with the victim about the incense she had burning in her home. Officials have not confirmed that the incense caused the fire.

Covington fire officials are expected to have more information available later Monday morning.

Monday's fire would be the second deadly fire in Covington this year. In January a man died after a house burned in Latonia.

Last week, another Latonia home was damaged by fire just a day after one in West Covington/Botany Hills also burned.
