Reports: Holmes Star Getting National Attention, And Calls from UK

Holmes sophomore James Bolden emerged as one of Northern Kentucky's top players this season and after leading the Bulldogs to the Kentucky Sweet Sixteen the sharp shooter's profile has risen even more.

Earlier this week, NKY Sports writer/broadcaster Ryan Roberts tweeted:

Orlando Antigua recently called the home of 2015 Holmes (KY) PG James Bolden to express UK's interest.

Antigua is a top assistant to Kentucky Head Coach John Calipari.

WXIX's Joe Danneman tweeted Wednesday:

Have been told UK is showing interest in Holmes sophomore James Bolden. Calipari saw him at Sweet 16. Will take an unofficial visit.

Calipari and Antigua both watched the entirety of the Holmes's second round Sweet Sixteen loss to Madison Central last week. UK is heavily recruiting a star player from that school but Bolden appears to have caught their eye, too.

Bolden already has been offered a scholarship to Xavier and reportedly is receiving interest from Cincinnati and Purdue.

That interest is spreading beyond the region, now, nkyFAN reports:

After Bolden’s Holmes team won in last Wednesday’s first round game in the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Sweet 16 State Tournament over Pleasure Ridge Park, he was surrounded by a group of six reporters from various recruiting websites.

“It’s exciting for me. I’m just looking forward to playing, and I’m just focused on this tournament right now. It’s been an exciting journey so far,” Bolden said of the attention he’s been receiving. “It means a lot. I’m finally getting the recognition, after being in the gym all summer just working on my game – it paid off.”

Scout.com National Recruiting Analyst Evan Daniels has watched Bolden play multiple times this season now, including both games in the Kentucky State Sweet 16 Tournament. On Friday, during the fourth quarter of Bolden’s game against Madison Central, Daniels gave us his thoughts on the sophomore from Holmes:

“What I like about James is his quickness and his pull-up jump-shots and floaters in the lane. He’s a guy that’s going to have to get stronger, and get a little more consistent and take a little better care of the ball. But, he is talented – he can really handle it, especially going left, and I like his speed and quickness. He’s a guy that college coaches are going to be paying a lot more attention to over this summer.”

A UK recruiting blog also weighs in on Bolden's possible attention from Calipari:

The UK coach was waiting outside the Holmes locker room after the game, presumably to talk to Holmes Coach Jason Booher.

If UK pursues Bolden, they’ll likely find an eager target. He said Wednesday that UK is his dream school, and he’s been a lifelong fan of the Wildcats.
