Sanitation District Requests Comments from Public on Proposed Rate Increase

The public is invited to weigh in on the proposed rate increase by the Sanitation District, the issue that caused tension at Tuesday night's Covington city commission meeting.

From Sanitation District 1:

SD1 is currently developing our annual budget and supporting rates for Fiscal Year(FY) 2014 to fund the valuable services we provide to our customers. As the wastewater and storm water utility for Boone, Campbell and Kenton Counties, SD1 is responsible for the collection, treatment and discharge of the community’s wastewater, as well as management of the community’s storm water to prevent flooding, erosion and pollution of the region’s waterways. In carrying out these responsibilities, SD1 is charged with protecting the health of the customers we serve, the environment and the public sewer infrastructure investments in Northern Kentucky.

In order to successfully provide these essential services, SD1 must periodically seek changes in the fees charged to our customers. For more information on the services SD1 provides and the cost-saving measures SD1 takes to ensure these services are affordable for our customers, please visit the “Customer Service” tab.

In preparing our FY 2014 budget and supporting rates, SD1 requests and welcomes your comments regarding the proposed rate changes. SD1 will be hosting an open house at our main office at 1045 Eaton Drive in Ft. Wright on May 13 beginning at 6 p.m. You may provide your comments at the open house session or submit a public comment form by mail or in person at our main office during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You may also email your comments to [email protected]. All comments must be received by SD1 by May 18.

Following the public comment period, which ends on May 18, SD1’s Board of Directors and the Boone, Campbell and Kenton County Fiscal Courts will review and consider all public comments before determining fee changes.

SD1 strives to provide the highest level of wastewater and storm water service to our customers, and we appreciate your feedback as we work to meet this goal.
