St. Elizabeth Moving 300 Jobs Out of Covington
St. Elizabeth Health Care will be moving 300 jobs out of its current location on East 20th Street (the old St. E. Hospital now known as Providence Pavillion) to an open facility in Erlanger.
When St. Elizabeth sold the former North hospital in Covington to George Hagan in 2009, it kept about 300 finance jobs in an attached office building. St. Elizabeth had a three-year lease with the expectation that it would consolidate at some point.
St. Elizabeth looked for space in Covington, Giolando said, but its need for about 50,000 square feet of space, and the potential to expand to 75,000 square feet, forced it to look outside the city. The organization even looked at building a new facility on 12th Street before deciding to move.
A spokesperson with the City of Covington told The River City News on Friday that the job losses will likely be offset in the longterm as St. E intends to expand the number of jobs at its new medical campus on Martin Luther King Boulevard.
The job loss is the largest in the city since 2011 when both Omnicare and The Nielsen Company jumped across the river after receiving generous incentives from the State of Ohio and the City of Cincinnati.
