Justin Sanders announces his candidacy for the Kentucky Court of Appeals, Sixth Appellate District.
The election is in 2014.
In July, Sanders was named a finalist for an appointment to the seat that became vacant when Judge Michelle Keller was appointed by Governor Steve Beshear to the Kentucky Supreme Court.
The appointment went to Allison Emerson Jones.
Sanders is part of the Sanders Law Firm on Russell Street and works under his father. Bob Sanders. His brother, Rob Sanders, is the Kenton County Commonwealth's Attorney.
“As an experienced attorney who has tried cases both as a criminal prosecutor and a civil litigator, represented common people in the courtroom in their fight for justice, and taken cases before the Court of Appeals and Kentucky Supreme Court, I think I am uniquely qualified for this position,” Sanders said.
Sanders graduated magna cum laude from the University of Kentucky, where heplayed varsity baseball, was named to the SEC All Academic Team, and received his law degree from Pepperdine University School of Law, where he graduated cum laude.
In addition to his private practice at The Sanders Law Firm, Sanders has volunteered as an Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney in Kenton County, where he prosecuted an array of felony crimes, including murder, assault, and narcotics trafficking, and drafted search and arrest warrants for law-enforcement officers.
Sanders resides in Fort Wright with his wife, Meredith, and their two children, Griffin, 7, and Lorelei, 4.
