New Covington-Based Democratic Group Endorses Grimes in Senate Race
The Northern Kentucky Democratic League, at their August 15th monthly meeting, voted to officially endorse Alison Lundergan Grimes for United States Senate. The Northern Kentucky Democratic League (NKDL) is a broad coalition of democrats from the northern part of the Sixth District.
“For three decades, the Commonwealth has gained very little under the leadership, or lack-thereof, of Senator McConnell,” commented NKDL Chair Shawn W. Masters in a news release. “There is no better candidate to challenge Senator McConnell than Alison Lundergan Grimes. She has proven to be a true leader, as our Secretary of State, and she is articulate, formidable, and ready and willing to fight for working families of our Commonwealth. This endorsement not only positions the NKDL to provide early momentum in Northern Kentucky for this race to unseat Mitch McConnell, but it is our commitment to the Grimes’ campaign of financial support, active volunteering, as well as, being available to assist her campaign in any way.”
Grimes faces a Democratic primary challenge in Ed Marksberry of Owensboro.
Sen. Mitch McConnell, first elected in 1984, faces a primary challenge, too. Louisville businessman Matt Bevin will face the Senate Minority Leader in May's primary.
