Students Recognized for Box Up The Bully Program at Covington School
Middle school students at Covington Holmes Alternative School were recognized for their participation in the "Box Up The Bully" program, a service learning project.
Covington Mayor Sherry Carran and Julie Wharton, Mayerson Service Learning Initiative Coordinator at Children, Inc, presented fifteen students with a personalized certificate and a pin from the national Jefferson Awards for Public Service.
The objective of “Box up the Bully” is to help young students in Covington Schools overcome bullying through education. In addition to creating posters, flyers, written reflections, and a power point, the project participants will place “No Bullying Lock Boxes” in six schools. Students can then discreetly place their concerns about bullying in the box to be addressed by school administration.
Among the signatures on the certificates are those of Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, U. S. Senator Mitch McConnell, Mayor Carran, and Whoopi Goldberg.
