NKU Falls to USC Upstate, 73-64

Ricardo Glenn and Torrey Craig each recorded double-doubles to lead South Carolina Upstate to a 73-64 victory over Northern Kentucky on Thursday night in the Hodge Center.

Glenn finished with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Craig added 11 points, 12 rebounds and five assists. USC Upstate (8-8 overall, 1-2 Atlantic Sun Conference) shot 53.1 percent from the field and used a decisive 17-5 run in the second half to turn a 41-39 deficit into a 56-46 lead when Glenn converted a basket inside.

The Spartans placed five players in double figures and won the battle of the boards by a 38-25 count. USC Upstate's Fred Miller and Ty Greene each netted 13 points, while teammate Jodd Maxey scored 11.

Tyler White poured in 17 points for Northern Kentucky, which is 7-10 overall, 3-2 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Norse were held to 26.9 percent shooting from the field in the second half and finished at 38.9 percent for the game.

"We couldn't make shots in the second half, and we had some good looks," Norse head coach Dave Bezold said. "We shoot 50 percent in the first half and get the lead early in the second half, and then we couldn't buy a basket. I thought we did a good job defensively on Craig, but several of their other players stepped up and made big shots."

Jordan Jackson added 15 points and five rebounds for the Norse, who had their three-game winning streak snapped. Daniel Camps added eight points off the bench for Northern Kentucky, which was outscored 41-22 in the paint.

Todd Johnson finished with seven points, four assists and two steals. Jack Flournoy and Jalen Billups each scored six points for the Norse, who limited USC Upstate to 2-for-11 shooting (18.2 percent) from 3-point range.

USC Upstate is now 2-1 all-time against Northern Kentucky.

Northern Kentucky concludes the trip Saturday with a 4 p.m. game at East Tennessee State.
