Norse Fall at East Tennessee State

Rashawn Rembert scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half to lead East Tennessee State to a 74-65 victory over Northern Kentucky on Saturday in the MSHA Athletics Center.

Hunter Harris added 17 points and three blocked shots as East Tennessee State improved to 9-8 overall, 2-2 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. The Buccaneers used a 13-4 run in the second half to turn a 32-31 deficit into a 44-36 advantage and later led by as many as 18 points.

"This is a very tough place to get a win if you're the visitor, and ETSU played very well in the second half," Norse head coach Dave Bezold said. "They scored some points in transition, but we didn't really hit a number of open looks against their zone. We had good shots in the second half, but they didn't fall."

Jordan Jackson scored 20 points and collected four steals for Northern Kentucky, which is 7-11 overall, 3-3 in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Jalen Billups grabbed 12 rebounds and finished with 10 points, while Daniel Camps scored a career-high 12 points and dished out a career-best three assists.

Kinard Gadsden-Gilliard added 11 points and seven rebounds for East Tennessee State, which is 2-1 all-time against Northern Kentucky. The Buccaneers shot 45.1 percent from the field, including 8-for-16 from 3-point range.

East Tennessee State led by as many as seven points in the first half, but Northern Kentucky rallied behind Jackson's 11 points before the break and trailed by just two (30-28) at intermission. Tyler White added six points during the first half for the Norse, who shot 40.9 percent against the Buccaneer zone defense before the break.

The Norse took a 32-31 lead early in the second half on a Jackson basket. East Tennessee State countered with its game-changing 13-4 spurt as Rembert scored 10 points during the run.

"ETSU has very good players, and they can compete with every team in this conference," Bezold said. "We missed a couple of dunks and layups, and that allowed them to get into transition."
