New Members of Gateway College Board to Be Named Soon
The Gateway Community & Technical College board of directors has not held a meeting since a testy one in November, possibly the last for all of its members whose terms expired.
The next meeting isn't scheduled until February.
Governor Steve Beshear is to name new members as he has done for other community colleges across the state in the weeks since that November meeting.
Beshear's office sent notice this week that the Gateway College Nominating Commission will meet Thursday at 2 p.m. at the offices of Dressman Benzinger LaVelle PSC in Crestview Hills.
That commission is charged with presenting names to Beshear for appointment to the board. Typically, the governor's appointments to various boards across the state are made public on Fridays.
The new board will guide the college through its ambitious plans for an urban campus in Downtown Covington, something the governor highlighted for partial funding in his budget address Tuesday night.
The urban campus was a point of contention at the November board meeting with some board members casting doubt on whether the plans were as honest as they have been presented.
Members of the outgoing board may be re-appointed if they applied, but it is unclear how many sought to be placed on the board again and how many will move on.
