Pike Street Peddler Set to Open in Covington

On Tuesday, another shop will open its doors in Downtown Covington filling a space that had been empty for over a year. Owned by Peggy Muller, Pike Street Peddler, located at 10 West Pike Street, carries a variety of refurbished and repurposed furniture, handmade crafts, and other home décor items. According to Muller, she and her friend and partner Shirley Alley are “junk pickers” and go everywhere to find the perfect pieces for their shop.
The two women met through Facebook and immediately hit it off. “We both shared the dream of opening a shop and supporting small shop businesses,” said Alley, who also
works as a manager at nearby Motch Jewelers. “We are a perfect balance of serious and goofy so we laugh at each other a lot.”
The pair also shares a love for Covington and believes the city is heading in the right direction. “The city is up and coming and I want to be involved in the growth and help
others to realize their own dreams,” said Muller.
“We both believe Covington is coming back as the place to live, shop, and work,” added Alley. “There are many (people) in Covington willing to support you and help you start your business here.”
Although they might be older than most shop owners who open their doors for the first time, both women have no plans on slowing down. “I had another business that I signed over to my son but it was time for me to realize my own dreams,” said Muller. “I believe that if you can envision it, keep walking towards your goal, and surround yourself with positive people, you can make your dreams come true.”
“We’re not ready for the rocking chair,” says Alley. “It’s time to ‘rock’ our dream. We aren’t planning on living our parents’ retirement.”
The shop will host a soft opening on Tuesday at 11 a.m. and plans for a grand opening party are still in the works. Pike Street Peddler will be open Tuesday-Saturday from 11 a.m. -4 p.m. through the winter and spring months and summer hours will be announced at a later date. For more information on the shop, visit
