Single Mother in Covington Awarded Scholarship to Finish College

A college student working with Welcome House was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship to help her finish school.

Danielle Sims needs to complete two more semesters before she earns a Bachelor's Degree in Construction Management. The scholarship from the Greater Cincinnati Northern Kentucky Apartment Association will help cover part of Danielle's remaining tuition at Northern Kentucky University.

Danielle and her children live at the Gardens at Greenup. The Gardens is a transitional housing facility for families working towards self-sufficiency. While living at the Gardens, parents work on furthering their education. Danielle also works with a Welcome House case manager to prepare a budget and plan for her future. She currently works 40 hours a week at a Co-Op with a local construction company while attending classes. Danielle looks forward to graduating but the financial cost of college created a significant burden on her family. This scholarship helps her work towards her goal of providing a wonderful stable future for herself and her children.

Welcome House provides three housing programs: Emergency Shelter for homeless women and children, The Gardens at Greenup, and King's Crossing (permanent housing for homeless individuals who are disabled).
