County Police Investigate Child/Elder Abuse
A woman is behind bars after Kenton County Police say they found two children and an elderly woman living in "deplorable conditions" in Latonia Lakes.
Officers responded to 470 Walnut Road to assist officers from the Kentucky Department of Corrections Division of Probation and Parole in locating a wanted person. That person was not found but police did find the children, the elderly woman, five other adults, and "numerous cats".
Police report that floors and furniture in the residence were littered with animal urine and feces. The 89-year old woman is unable to move on her own and was lying in a bed with urine and feces. Neither she nor the children had eaten yet today, the police said.
The 89-year old was transported by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood. The children were also removed from the residence and are being helped by the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services.
Christina Kurtz, 29, was arrested on second degree criminal abuse charges. She is being held at the Kenton County Detention Center and is expected to appear in court on Thursday at 8:30 a.m.
The Kenton County Police Department’s investigation into the case remains open. More criminal charges are likely, police said. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to call Kenton County Police Officer Price at 859-356-3191.
