Short Agenda for Covington Commission, But Longer Meeting Possible
The agenda for Tuesday night's Covington City Commission is shorter than usual and includes no reference to the possible removal or resignation of City Manager Larry Klein, an issue that was addressed throughout much of the day at City Hall on Thursday.
The River City News learned that former State Senator and Kentucky Secretary of Education & Workforce Development Joe Meyer has been floated as a possible replacement on an interim basis.
Klein is listed on the agenda as the staff presenter of various items.
He may also be the topic of debate among members of the commission and the broader community as those for and against keeping Klein on the job speak out.
The River City News will have the most comprehensive coverage from inside City Hall. Follow RCN on Facebook and Twitter.
Meeting preview:
- Lisa Desmarais will be considered to fill the role of information technology and data manager in the finance department. The position's title was renamed recently to fit the recommendations in State Auditor Adam Edelen's examination of the city's finances following the alleged embezzlement of $793,000 by former finance director Bob Due. The position reports directly to the city manager. Desmarais will also resign from the audit committee on Tuesday.
- The City will be able to use federal community development block grant (CDBG) dollars to pay for the emergency repairs to the Caroline Underpass after a retaining wall collapsed there forcing four homes to be evacuated for more than a month. The City originally paid for the repairs out of the general fund as it seeks a shared resolution with contractors and other government entities. The residents have since returned to their homes.
- Final approval is expected to change the zoning that would allow a Smart Car dealership to operate in the Ascent
- Chas Brannen will resign from the Devou Park Advisory Committee as he is one of fifteen candidates for Covington City Commission
