Cov Cath Sweet 16 Pep Rally Thursday, but Basketball Team Won't Be Only Colonels at Rupp

It is not just the Covington Catholic basketball team that will be making the trip to Lexington starting on Thursday for the Kentucky High School Athletic Association boys basketball Sweet 16.
While the Colonels basketball team claimed the Ninth Region title this year and will face Clay County in the first round of the state tournament on Thursday night, the Chamber Choir and a Covington Catholic student will be on the floor in Rupp Arena as well.
Sophomore Coire Thomas Ayres is the Secretary of State’s annual essay contest tenth grade winner. In its twenty-fifth year, the purpose of Secretary Alison Lundergan Grimes’ contest is to expand civic awareness with an emphasis on election issues. Coire will receive a $1,000 prize during an awards presentation with Secretary Grimes on Friday, March 21st at 1:30PM during half time of  Game #2.
The Covington Catholic Chamber Choir has been invited back to the State Tournament this year to sing the National Anthem at the Championship game on Sunday at 2:00PM.
This is a repeat performance for the Choir which also performed the National Anthem at last year’s Championship.
In a salute to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the Chamber Choir provided the recording of My Old Kentucky Home which was used as the background music for a video of Kentucky scenes to be aired at the Sweet 16.
