Taylor Mill Police Chief to Be Honored

The Greater Cincinnati Chapter of American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) will recognize Taylor Mill Police Chief Steve Knauf at its 2014 "Public Administrator of the Year Awards" Banquet in the category of "Program Excellence".
This event will take place at the Phoenix in Cincinnati, Ohio on April 11. Taylor Mill Mayor Dan Bell will accept the award on behalf of Chief Knauf who will be out of town and unable to attend.
City Administrator Jill Bailey nominated Chief Knauf. "With a Police Department of only twelve full-time sworn officers and one full-time administrative assistant, Chief Knauf had the vision to lead his department to become one of the smallest law enforcement agencies in the world to attain international accreditation, through the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, twice over," Bailey said.
Additionally, the Taylor Mill Police Department is the first and only Small agency in the Commonwealth of Kentucky to become CALEA accredited.  CALEA defines a small agency as one with a staff of 25 or less.  The Taylor Mill Police Department and the Lexington Police Department are the ONLY CALEA accredited agencies in Kentucky.

Bailey noted that Chief Knauf had the foresight to recognize that the attainment of CALEA accreditation would be a vehicle to demonstrate agency transparency to internal and external stakeholders, and ongoing process used to further enhance and professionalize police department operations, and to measure and contrast the Taylor Mill Police Department against industry best practice standards developed by National Expert Law Enforcement Practitioners.

As quoted by Chief Knauf in the Kentucky Law Enforcement Magazine "we are a small agency, but we want to be the best we can be, we always want to challenge ourselves to get better".

"Chief Knauf had the vision that CALEA accreditation would be a linchpin in transforming the Taylor Mill Police Department into what the organization is today, a destination Law Enforcement Agency, where Police Officers stay for a career up to retirement, certainly a defining achievement for Chief Knauf, the Taylor Mill Police Department, CAO Bailey, and all of the Taylor Mill City Commissioners," Mayor Bell said.
